LILLIAN GISH FILM FESTIVAL STUFF

I recently wrapped up a set of promotions for the Lillian Gish Film Festival 07. It will be hosted here in Springfield, OH, her birth town. Gish is a pretty major star of the early silent cinema days as well as the talking pictures. Check out the promo stuff I have been working on.

WITTENBERG + HUCKLEBUCK

Wittenberg is a well respected liberal arts university in Springfield. I've been looking for an opportunity to work with them and recently had my chance with the Witt Series poster. Check out the works in progress. The illustrations in the poster are by Wittenberg faculty member, Jack Mann.

HATCH+HUCKLEBUCK

I recently had the opportunity to take part in a print workshop put on by OSU+Columbus Society of Communicating Arts that featured Jim Sherraden from Hatch Show Print in Nashville. I've been a long time fan of Hatch and their passion for keeping it analog.

Jim brought up a bunch of his wood blocks from the shop and OSU furnished some wood type. Everyone had a great time just experimenting with print for 6+ hours. It was nice to get dirty again.

Here are some of the small prints I did. I had an old guitar instructional book, which I thought would make a good backdrop for the Nashvillian roots of the blocks. I'm pretty pleased with the results. Enjoy.

FRENCH PAPER AWARD

I designed a promotional piece for my rep to send out a couple of months ago. It was a really cool black muscletone french stock with black thermography and a label. Turned out nice. I'll post later.

Apparently the paper rep for the printer who handled the job submitted it to Freanh and I won an award for it. My first official accidental award. Here are a few scans.

Ahhh...Fall is in the air and some new stuff's a comin'

For the three of you who actually read this blog (that may be an overstatement)

This is by far my favorite time of the year. Which is a bit strange because it's the time of the year when nature dies a slow death on it's way to winter. Kind of depressing really.

Anyway...This is a beautiful time of the year, with the leaves changing and what not. It always inspires me and makes me ponder what this past year has held and what this upcoming year will hold.

I have a lot of ideas for Hucklebuck in '07. I will begin selling prints of my posters and other selected pieces. Screen prints and so on. I have been getting quite a bit of inquiry about this and I think it's time to go for it. I'd like to do limited editions and so on. We'll have to see how it plays out. I will also be launching FOUND™ as it's own brand and line of accessoriess including journals, clothing, coffee mugs and much more. I am hoping to begin licensing the products by mid '07 in major retailers. Again, we'll see how that plays out.

Keep an eye out for the next edition of FOUND™ coming soon. The upcoming book will be more polished than the first effort and will incorporate a pratical application for how to use found type in design. The city of focus will be Seattle. Should be pretty swank.

1" hucklebuck badges will be coming out soon as well to replace the free sticker.

THE END

COUNTY FAIR WRESTLING. NICE!

I judged the Champaign County Fair arts competition last week and while I was there I noticed a cool letterpress poster of "Big Time Wrestling" of which I happened to gank. With permission of course. I then noticed that it was an event for the fair this week. How could you pass up the chance to take in some middle aged guys that have no business wearing a singlet not to mention flying off of the top ropes like Superfy Snuka .

We went last night and these are the images I came away with.

Headlocks galore.

Off the top rope.

The Sheik of Araby. I dare not repeat what the crowd was yelling at this dude. The classic US vs. the Mid East

The American Hero. Pretty sure this guy just got done coaching his kids baseball game.

This old woman was heckling the wrestlers the whole time. It was amazing. Even more amazing was when she tagged in and preformed the most impressive belly to back suplex I have yet to witness.

MATTCHEW. I think this guy played cornerback in the 95-96 season for the Bucks. Riiight...

The restless crowd. Half of which thought every single thing that was happening was completely real and I heard numerous death threats hoisted out towards the Sheik of Araby...that's about the time that we quietly slipped away. My favorite part was when one of the "managers" got hit sqaure in the face by a full water bottle some guy threw into the ring. Ain't nothin fake about 16 oz in the grill.

I've got more pics, but I think this gets the idea across

STAGEWORKS 06-07

I have begun work on the new Stageworks stuff for 06-07. It's turning out pretty nice. I love to do work for Art groups who appreciate it. Here's a preview for the brochure. I want to bring the bird icon into prominence this season. Enjoy...
